What is a gematria calculator?

A gematria calculator is a tool used to covert words or phrases into numerical values. It's an ancient system of coding language through numbers, as gems and stones were often seen as symbolic of important spiritual data. A modern version of this is widespread in the Kabbalah or esoteric traditions, but it has its roots in the ancient world where it was used to unravel cryptic messages.

Gematria comes from the Hebraic term "gimatria", which means "to calculate", and calculators for this system are basically digital versions of the ancient tradition. With this tool, you can assign a numerical value to any given word or phrase. Every Hebrew letter has an equivalent numerical value attributed to it. For example, aleph is associated with 1, beit is associated with 2, gimel is associated with 3 and so on.

The Gematria Calculator takes your phrase and assigns a numerical value based on these ancient numerology codes according to the Jewish mystical tradition called Kabbalah. For instance, if we were to calculate the value of "God" (which would be written Gimel Vav Daleth) we would get 68 because "Gimel=3 + Vav=6 + Daleth=4 = 13 x 5 = 68."

Gematria calculators are popularly used today by people hoping to uncover mysteries hidden in language - many believe that words have secret meaning that can only be uncovered by unlocking hidden numerical patterns held within them. Others simply find amusement in uncovering their name's numerological value with some claiming it reveals information about themselves associated with certain numbers and their energies!
